29th girls arrive today after exhausting series of flight .Lisl texted this am to say that they had arrived in Frankfurt and were waiting for connecting flights. We had great brekky with an Italian couple and a couple from Cologne .The Italians had only little English but the German guy spoke 4 languages and did all the interpreting . They had much advice were we should go and this basically how we have been playing it. The landlady had absolutely no English but C showed her her brag book of family etc and so when we left we were both clasped to her ample bosom .
Tom tom was set for Lido island Venice and I thought this would be a test but it brought us to ferry terminal and then said take the ferry all very easy.
The hotel is beautiful small villa and we have decided to extend for another day to give the girls time to recover ,get some clothes washed and have a decent look around.
On first look around the island the villas look very grand ,with beautiful gates and gardens.
Met girls at airport with no hassles .They looked a mixture of shattered ,excited and pleased to see us .With out to ado I broke it to them they had another 50 min boat ride to hotel and if we missed that boat another 1hr till another one. But all went smoothly and they were up bright and early next day to do Venice. Purchased 48hr pass for all boats and buses and got into it.
Did some touristy things like Doges palace and St Marks Basilica but really enjoyed just discovering
the all the little streets and bridges. Saw glass blowing exhibition on Venice then went out to murano island where all the factories our and were disappointed to discover that for some reason the prices were much more than on main island ,so that wasted about 2.5 precious hours. Loved Venice will go back again .The girls skimpy clothes were replaced with more layers as the reality of autumn set in.
